The Good Neighbour Scheme was established to help all ages – young or old – living in the local area. Their aim is to give practical help to those in need, 7 days a week.
The Scheme links those with some time to spare with those in the community who need and ask for help and aim to fill the gaps left by existing services and not to replace them. The Scheme is supported by the Volunteer Association and Surrey Voluntary Service Council but relies on donations. If you would like to make a donation or offer your services then lease call your local branch.
All Volunteers, men and women of all ages and abilities, give their time freely to help those with:
•Transport to the bank, Post office, shops, hairdressers, doctors, hospitals* etc
•Filling in forms
•Home visits
•Shopping
•Collecting prescriptions
•Changing library books
•Dog walking
•Odd jobs
•If in doubt, please ask!
* Not all schemes offer hospital transport
How it works:
•Call your local Good Neighbour Scheme (list below) between 10am-12pm,Monday -Friday.
•Someone will be there on the other end of the phone to take your request or you may be asked to leave a message.
•Phones are constantly checked so if you have left a message, someone will call you back to organise your requirements.
•Some Schemes will come and visit all new clients to ensure they understand all their needs and requirements.
Volunteers Needed!
All schemes are in urgent need of volunteers so if you do have any time to spare, the scheme will appreciate any assistance you can offer either in the form of a duty officer, driver or odd jobber. Volunteers can be of any age or ability as some tasks can be dealt with those that are house bound.
The Addlestone & Ottershaw Good Neighbour Scheme and Goldsworth Care are both urgently looking for a Secretary. Additionally, if you are a driver and have time and wish to volunteer your services then please call the relevant number listed.
